Why real wood veneer at all?
Veneer wood is the cheaper alternative to solid wood. This financially advantageous effect is particularly noticeable when it comes to furniture. Self-adhesive wood veneer applied to the surfaces of cheaper substrate materials such as chipboard or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) makes furniture and other wooden objects appear as if they were made entirely of solid wood.Likewise, the use of self-adhesive wood veneer makes it possible to create artistic, decorative designs or inlays that solid wood can never offer.

The types and differences of real wood veneer

Oak veneer
Although available in several colors - from light to brown and reddish brown to dark brown - oak wood always exudes calm. It has a robust wooden structure with intense grain. Oak wood often also has knotholes, which are not at all annoying but also have a decorative effect. The insensitive and largely warp-resistant wood is perfect for oak veneer .
Walnut veneer
The warm brown of European walnut has a powerful grain. A lampshade made of thin walnut veneer looks impressive with its pattern even without lighting. When illuminated from within, a pleasantly soft glow of light spreads through it.Pine veneer
Pine wood is a delicate light brown color. With its wavy pattern of annual rings and numerous significantly darker, mostly small knotholes, stone pine veneer conveys a cheerful flair. Can you paint wood veneer?
The presentation of individual types of wood veneer has shown what a great artist nature already is. Nevertheless, the question regularly arises as to whether you can paint veneer according to your own ideas. The answer is yes, as long as the special features of real wood veneer are taken into account:Is the veneer still stuck?
First, make sure the veneer is still firmly bonded to its substrate. If necessary, fill holes or dents with a little filler or wood glue.Do not sand the wood before painting the veneer
In all types of wood veneer, the layers are very thin – a maximum of 6 mm. Sanding can therefore easily damage the thin layer of wood.Before painting the veneer, it is better to clean the surface with a little cleaning spirit and a soft sponge. This way the color will also hold well.
Tape off neighboring areas

If you want a bright color with a shiny surface, we recommend one of the popular acrylic varnishes. It is important that you choose a varnish that is actually suitable for wood.If you prefer a matt surface, we recommend chalk paint. It is also available in different colors, matching the typical powdery consistency of chalk paint, which, by the way, adheres excellently to unsanded veneer. Chalk paint is also ideal for trendy shabby chic.
