Hello! I'm Matthias Stölzle from LeuchtNatur, and I get asked every day: "Which wooden floor lamp suits my living room?" or "What's the difference between all the types of wood?" I understand these questions well, because the selection is large and each material has its own characteristics.
After over ten years of experience with wooden lamps, I can assure you of one thing: the right choice of material determines whether your lamp becomes the centerpiece of the room or simply provides light. Each type of wood has its own personality, its own effect, and its ideal place of use. You immediately notice this when you see different materials side by side – the difference is astonishing.

Today, I'm sharing my experiences with you and explaining which materials are suitable for which rooms and interior styles. Because a well-chosen lamp can completely transform your room. I've seen this countless times with our customers.
The classic wood types and their characteristics
Let's start with heartwood beech – a true all-rounder among woods. The warm, honey-yellow color with its lively grain suits almost any interior style. Especially in rooms with light furniture or Scandinavian design, heartwood beech fully unfolds its effect. The light is diffused gently and evenly, creating a cozy atmosphere. I often recommend heartwood beech for living rooms and bedrooms, where coziness is paramount.

German oak brings tradition and durability to every room. Its strong, darker coloring with striking grain radiates tranquility and strength. Oak harmonizes perfectly with rustic and classic furnishings, but also as a contrast to modern, minimalist furniture. The translucent light is warm and rich, ideal for rooms where you want to relax and unwind. In our Arbor or Lucerna series, oak looks particularly impressive.
European walnut is one of the more noble woods in our range. The chocolate-brown base color with darker veins gives every room elegance and depth. A wooden floor lamp fits perfectly with high-quality furniture and creates a luxurious yet warm atmosphere. The light is softly filtered and gains a particularly cozy note from the dark wood. Perfect for studies or elegant living areas where you value style.
Special grains for extraordinary effects
Poplar burl is something very special. Irregular growth creates these wild, fascinating patterns that turn every lampshade into a work of art. Poplar burl attracts attention and is guaranteed to be a conversation starter. It fits perfectly with modern interiors where you want to make a statement. The translucent light literally dances through the grain, creating lively light plays on the walls.
Olive ash burl was, by the way, the wood that inspired me to found LeuchtNatur. The warm, golden-yellow base color with characteristic dark stripes creates a fascinating fire when illuminated. Olive ash suits Mediterranean interiors, but also serves as a warm contrast to cool, modern furniture. In our Columna series, olive ash burl truly shines.
White Ebony is misleading with its name – it is light, almost creamy white with fine, dark lines. This noble wood fits perfectly with minimalist, Scandinavian, or modern interiors. The light is diffused very evenly and brightly, ideal for rooms where you read or work a lot. White Ebony appears understated yet elegant.
Exotic materials for a special character
Tineo comes from sustainable forestry and surprises with its rosy-brown color and interesting grain. It brings warmth and exoticism to any room without being obtrusive. Especially in combination with natural materials like rattan or linen, Tineo unfolds its full effect.
Silver birch impresses with its light, almost white base color and characteristic dark horizontal stripes. It fits perfectly with Nordic interior styles and creates a clear, fresh atmosphere. The light is diffused brightly and cheerfully – ideal for rooms that should appear larger and brighter.
Innovative materials beyond wood
Our hand-cut alpine hay appeals to all senses. The natural structure with scattered blue cornflowers and delicate leaves brings true alpine air into your home. The subtle scent of fresh hay makes every designer wooden wall lamp with alpine hay a special experience. The material suits country house style, but also modern interiors where you want to add natural accents.
Our stone veneer is an absolute world novelty. Slate is cut into wafer-thin sheets and pressed onto textile backings. The result is astonishing: when switched off, you see the natural stone structure; when switched on, the lamp completely transforms. The light is softly filtered and gains a particularly noble touch from the stone. Stone veneer suits modern, minimalist interiors and creates exciting contrasts.
How to find the right material for your room
For bright, modern rooms, I recommend White Ebony or silver birch. These woods enhance the friendly, airy character and make rooms appear even larger. In our Atticus series, these light woods come into their own particularly beautifully.
Cozy living rooms benefit from warm woods such as heartwood beech or European walnut. They create that comfortable atmosphere that invites you to linger. Especially in combination with warm colors and natural materials, these woods unfold their full effect.
Elegant rooms can handle stronger woods like German oak or exotic burls. They bring character and depth to the room without being too dominant. Our Columna is perfect here, as its slim design gives the material enough space to make an impact.
If you want to set extraordinary accents, poplar burl or alpine hay are the right choice. These materials are guaranteed to be a conversation starter and bring personality to any room. A wooden pendant lamp with poplar burl above the dining table, for example, becomes an absolute eye-catcher.
Consider color temperature and room effect
The material of your lamp also influences the light color. Dark woods like walnut or oak make the light warmer and cozier – perfect for bedrooms and living rooms. Light woods like White Ebony or silver birch make the light appear clearer and fresher – ideal for work or reading areas.
When choosing LED light sources, I generally recommend 2700K warm white for living and sleeping areas. This color temperature harmonizes with all our wood types and creates a relaxed atmosphere. For work areas, you can also choose 3000K, which is a bit more neutral and conducive to concentration.
Care and longevity of your wooden lamp
Real wood veneers are more robust than many people think. Thanks to our special reinforcement with environmentally friendly cellulose fleece and the textile edge banding, our lamps last for decades. You don't need any special care – occasional dusting with a soft cloth is completely sufficient.

The beauty of natural materials is that they age gracefully. The color may change slightly over the years, but that makes each lamp even more individual. I know customers who have had their Arbor or Lucerna for over eight years – they still look fantastic.
My personal advice for your decision
After all these years with wooden lamps, I advise you: Let your feelings guide you. Which wood appeals to you when you see it? Which grain fascinates you? This intuitive choice is often the right one, because you will live with your lamp every day.
Also consider the size of your room. In small rooms, a Columna looks more elegant than a large Atticus. In high rooms, an Arbor can unfold its full effect. And don't forget the wall lighting – a suitable wooden wall lamp like our Cortexa perfectly completes the lighting concept.
Investing in a high-quality wooden lamp is always worth it. You get a piece of nature in your home, crafted with passion and skill. Each of our lamps is handmade here in Chiemgau – quality you can feel and that brings joy for years.
